5 Ways to make a Fresh Start this Year

2020 is a year we will all remember. What started out as excitement for a new decade quickly turned into one of the biggest challenges many of us have ever faced. While 2020 was certainly a challenge we persevered and made it through to the new year solidifying just how resilient we are as human beings, yay!  Now that the year is behind us are you ready to take on 2021 and start fresh with a brand new attitude and mindset? If so, here’s how you can do it:

1. Tackle your Debt

With shut-downs, lay-offs, and furloughs it’s understandable that your financial situation may have taken a hit in 2020 leading to more debt than you may have expected. Don’t fret. You can get a handle on it, as long as you make a plan. Now is a great time to assess your monthly expenses. Try keeping a log of all the money you spend throughout the month. You’ll be surprised at what you find.

For example, you may find that you’ve been ordering take out a lot or frequently using food delivery services. All of these expenses can add up fast, especially if you’re not paying attention. Instead of ordering take out a few times a week, try a few times a month and use that extra money to pay down your debt.

2. Declutter your Home

Getting rid of things you no longer need is a symbolic way of moving forward or starting fresh. Oftentimes when we think of decluttering we think of the obvious places like a kitchen or closet. While those are great places to start there is one place that is often overlooked but can be very rewarding once it’s cleaned out – your jewelry box.

Last but not least, it’s time to close the chapter. What chapter might that be you ask? It depends entirely on you. The chapter could be a failed relationship or friendship, a job, state of mind, situation, or even the year. Whatever it may be, it’s time to let it go so that you can move forward. A great way to close the chapter is to end all ties with whatever it may be. If you’re moving on from a relationship, delete the phone number, erase the texts, take down the pictures. You can even try writing a letter to whatever situation that needs closing. Whatever method you choose, make sure to let go completely and get excited about your fresh start 2021 edition.
