5 Ways to make a Fresh Start in the New Year
It’s a new year and with it brings the feeling of a fresh start and opportunity! If last year didn’t go as well as you planned, now is the time to take control and make this year your best one yet. Are you ready for a brand new attitude and mindset? If so, here’s how you can do it:
1. Tackle your Debt
If your financial situation got a little out of hand last year, don’t fret! You can get a handle on it, as long as you make a plan. Now is a great time to assess your monthly expenses. Try keeping a log of all the money you spend throughout the month. You’ll be surprised at what you find.
For example, you may find that you’ve been ordering takeout a lot or frequently using food delivery services. All of these expenses can add up fast, especially if you’re not paying attention. Instead of ordering takeout a few times a week, try a few times a month and use that extra money to pay down your debt.
2. Declutter your Home
Getting rid of things you no longer need is a symbolic way of moving forward or starting fresh. Oftentimes when we think of decluttering we think of the obvious places like a kitchen or closet. While those are great places to start there is one place that is often overlooked but can be very rewarding once it’s cleaned out – your jewelry box.
Decluttering your jewelry box is not only satisfying but it can also bring in some big bucks, especially if you have designer pieces. Take inventory of your items and separate the pieces that you no longer love. If you have valuable pieces, sell those items for cash to a reputable diamond buyer.
Ready to make some cash off your clutter?
3. Prioritize your Mental Health
If your mental health took a back burner last year, it’s time to make it a priority again! Your mental health is so important give it the love it deserves! Figure out what truly makes you happy and make those things a must every day. Whether it’s a walk outside, reading a book, or spending time with friends and family, make sure to schedule time for it.
4. Set Goals
Setting goals can help keep you motivated throughout the year. Now is a great time to reflect on things you wish you would have accomplished last year but weren’t able to. Your goals can be as little or as big as you want them to be. There is no right or wrong way, however if you are the type of person to quit if you don’t see results, it’s probably best to break a bigger goal into smaller and more attainable goals. Keep yourself motivated to reach your goals by listening to motivational podcasts or by reading an inspirational book.
5. Close the Chapter
Last but not least, it’s time to close the chapter. What chapter might that be you ask? It depends entirely on you. The chapter could be about a failed relationship or friendship, a job, a state of mind, a situation, or even the year. Whatever it may be, it’s time to let it go so that you can move forward. A great way to close the chapter is to end all ties with whatever it may be. If you’re moving on from a relationship, delete the phone number, erase the texts, and take down the pictures. You can even try writing a letter to whatever situation needs closing. Whatever method you choose, make sure to let go completely and get excited about your fresh start for the year.
