What is a Colored Diamond (or Fancy Colored Diamond)?
Colored Diamonds are created the same way a traditional (or white) diamond is, except that while they are forming, depending on the particular color, certain trace elements get mixed with the carbon atoms, or, specific stress factors can cause a beautiful array of colored diamonds. Colored diamonds can be thousands of different shades of yellow, pink, red, blue, green, purple, or even orange.
Which Colored Diamonds Fetch the Highest Price?
By Color
As with many things, it’s supply and demand. The fancy colored diamonds that are the rarest typically sell higher than other colors. Historically, the rarest have been red, pink, purple, violet, green and blue diamonds.
The 4 C’s Still Play a Role
Don’t forget about color, cut, clarity, and carat weight. All of these are still considered when evaluating colored diamonds.
